| You need to manually create a shortcut to the file alarmco.exe. | ||
| CC3 Networks | ||
| Please check the relevant topic for the application you want to install first, in case there are any application specific instructions. Otherwise, Click on this Instruction Page to see our suggestions on installing applications on a CC3 Network. | ||
| Crosswords - see Wordgames | ||
| CPU-SIM | ||
| You need CPU-SIM v1.2 which is designed to run on all operating systems from Windows 95 onwards. Contact SPA for an upgrade. If you purchased CPU-SIM after June 2003 the upgrade is free; if you purchased CPU-SIM before June 2003 there will be a small handling charge (currently £15 + VAT). | ||
| This problem has been resolved by running the application in Windows 2000 compatibility mode. | ||
| Electronic Learning Credits (eLCs) | ||
| Yes - all programs (except A-level Investigations) can be bought using eLCs. | ||
| eLCs are a grant given to English maintained schools to spend on software. If you are not an English maintained school, don't worry about them! | ||
| Lets Go Shopping | ||
| It has been discovered that a recent batch of CDs have been created with an incorrect password. Contact SPA if you want to modify the prices and you are unable to. | ||
| Omnigraph | ||
| Startup Omnigraph and immediately save with the name omnigraph.ogr in My Documents. Change the Omnigraph shortcut to point to this file instead of pointing to Omnigraph.exe. | ||
|
Omnigraph 3.1a included OLE support, to allow graphs to be exported to other
applications. Unfortunately this has meant that unless the application has been
run by an Administrative user that can write to the registry first, it does not
register its OLE support correctly, causing the application to not run when
accessed by a non-administrative user. A free upgrade from 3.1a to 3.1b is
now available which overcomes this issue for local machine installs.
For those running Omnigraph from a server you will need to download the
workstation installation package and instructions for using it. Double
click on the downloaded file to unzip the files it contains making a note of
the folder that you have unzipped it into. Open the folder and read the
Instructions file to find out how to use the package.

| PaintSpa | ||
| The registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PSWINDATA needs full access rights for all users. If you feel confident changing registry permissions you can do this yourself, if not a new version of the installation is available that addresses this problem. Contact SPA if you need the new version. | ||
| Splat! | ||
| Running Splat! on Windows XP can be
achieved by setting the display to 256 colours.
NB.Unfortunately, we can not offer support on running Splat! on Windows XP. |
||
| Story Maker 2 | ||
| Click on the correct version
2.0(a-d) or 2.1(a-b) to download
the workstation installation package and instructions for using it. Double
click on the downloaded file to unzip the files it contains making a note of
the folder that you have unzipped it into. Open the folder and read the file
"Instructions.rtf" for instructions on using the package. NB. these packages should not be required for installing onto an RM CC3 network or similar, where you install the application onto each client, rather than the server. |
||
| This problem has now been corrected. Contact SPA for a free upgrade to v2.0b. If you still have problems with version 2.0b, try running Story Maker 2.0 as administrator first; limited users should then be able to run the program. | ||
| This problem has been corrected.Contact SPA for a replacement version of Story Maker 2.0 German voices. | ||
| Folder names greater than 11 characters long are not acceptable to Story Maker 2. Rename your folder with a shorter name. | ||
| There was a problem with the speech engine. This has now been corrected. Contact SPA for a free upgrade to v2.0b | ||
| This is due to limited resources on Windows 98. The solution is to upgrade to version 2.1 | ||
| This is due to some of the speech DLLs being incompatible with Windows 2000 SP4. The solution is to upgrade to version 2.1 | ||
| This is due to users not having
permissions to access some files and registry entries, used by the speech
engine. Run the RM Application Detective, whilst logged in as administrator to
create a writeaccess.ini file that should include all the relevant files and
registry entries required to run the application correctly. NB. If you are running any additional languages the writeaccess.ini needs to be identical between the main Story Maker package and the additional language packages. Contact SPA if you are unable to get it to work, as we can provide a sample writeaccess.ini file that has worked on a secondary site. |
||
| This has been fixed in 2.1, but this
is a chargeable upgrade.
If you can not afford the recommended upgrade, there are two possible workarounds for this issue,
|
||
| Supastat | ||
| Within Supastat save a data file into the directory that you want to be your default, then save preferences. Alternatively modify the STWIN.INI file (this is in the Supastat directory). | ||
|
There are a couple of reasons that error messages could be occurring.
|
||
| Survival of the Fittest | ||
| There is a known problem installing Survival onto XP. If you copy the contents of the Programs folder and the Icon folder on the floppy disk into the Survival folder on your computer the program will work correctly. | ||
| Wordgames | ||
| Some HP printer drivers conflict with Crosswords and Wordsquare causing this problem. Upgrade to a different printer driver if possible. | ||
|
These programs require a default printer to be installed before they will run. They may not accept printer names longer than 8 letters, so if you have a default printer but you still see the message, then we recommend renaming the printer if possible. |
||
| WriteOn | ||
| This is due to a bug in WriteOn. You need to load the document from within WriteOn. This problem will occur if you use WriteOn as your word processor from within BookBuilder too. | ||
| Click OK in the message box. Click Ctrl+Alt+T to enter configuration mode, select "revert to factory settings", exit configuration mode and WriteOn itself. WriteOn will restart correctly now. | ||
